FM, Romania counterpart talk region, cooperation

AMMAN — Jordan on Tuesday highlighted the “unprecedented” threat that the Israeli annexation decision poses on opportunities to realise a just peace.

During talks over the phone with his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi reiterated the importance of the international community to exert more efforts to reach at an “effective and clear” stance rejecting the annexation decision that violates international law and undermines opportunities to realise peace, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi also called for joining efforts to resume “serious and real” negotiation to reach a solution to the conflict according to international law and the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, the statement said. 

Safadi and Aurescu also reviewed latest regional developments and efforts exerted to resolve Middle East crises and realise peace and stability in the region.  

The talks also focused on enhancing cooperation between Jordan and Romania and boosting solidarity in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The two ministers also agreed to hold a political consultation session at the level of senior officials from both countries via videoconference to discuss steps aimed at boosting cooperation in the fields of economy, culture and tourism. 

Safadi and Aurescu also agreed to continue coordination and hold a meeting as soon as possible to follow up on efforts to enhance cooperation and develop ties in all fields.
