AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nasser Al Mohammed Al Sabah on Tuesday stressed the need to stop the dangerous escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, the aggression on Gaza and all the illegal measures that led to the escalation.
In a phone call, the two ministers warned against the dangerous repercussions of Israeli practices on security and stability in the entire region, alerting to the absence of prospects to end the occupation and the diminution of the chances of achieving peace on the basis of the two-state solution, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
They affirmed the need to take an international action to oblige Israel, as the occupying power, to respect the existing legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites in a way that prevents the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and provides Palestinians with the necessary protection.
The phone call came within the framework of the ongoing coordination and consultation between the two countries, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly meeting, scheduled for next Thursday, to discuss the dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The two ministers agreed to maintain communication and joint work to support Palestinians in fulfilling all their legitimate rights.
