FM, Dutch counterpart talk ties, region

AMMAN —  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra on Monday stressed that Jordan and the Netherlands are proceeding towards bolstering cooperation in the economic, investment and defence related sectors as well as enhancing bilateral partnerships. 

Over the phone, the two ministers discussed advancing cooperation in the agriculture, water and vocational training sectors, among other vital sectors, according to a ministry statement.

Talks also went over the latest regional developments, with the two sides stressing on ongoing coordination towards resolving regional crises and maintaining security and stability.

Safadi also expressed appreciation of the Netherlands' backing for Jordan’s development process, notably its support to ease the hosting of refugees, thanking the Dutch government for their support to UNRWA.

He also lauded the Netherland’s stance in support of the two-state solution, describing it as the “sole way to a comprehensive and fair peace”. 

Hoekstra emphasised the “solid” Jordanian-Dutch friendship, expressing appreciation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s role in enhancing regional security and stability.   

Safadi congratulated his Dutch counterpart on assuming his responsibilities as the Netherland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The two sides agreed to hold a meeting to discuss means of enhancing partnerships between the two kingdoms that enjoy 70 years of diplomatic relations.
