FM conveys King’s condolences to Abbas over passing of Erekat

AMMAN — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi who arrived in Ramallah to convey His Majesty King Abdullah’s condolences over the passing of Saeb Erekat, the secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organisation.
President Abbas expressed appreciation for His Majesty’s gesture to delegate Safadi with conveying condolences over the death of Erekat, stressing that it highlights the “brotherly and historical” relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyadh Maliki and member of the Fateh Central Committee and head of the civil affairs commission minister Hussein Al Sheikh attended the meeting. Erekat died on Tuesday at the age of 65, weeks after being hospitalised with COVID-19.
