AMMAN —The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research spokesperson, Muhannad Khatib, said on Monday that the proceeds of the Kingdom’s first-ever public auction for distinctive license plate numbers would enable the ministry to include around 3,500 additional university students in the grants and loans provided by the University Student Support Fund during the current academic year.
Khatib said that the auction, which concluded earlier on Monday with total revenues of JD4.76 million, would be fully allocated to the Student Support Fund, in addition to the allocations already designated in 2025’s state budget, which the government increased by 50 per cent to reach JD30 million.
He stressed that the step “reflects the government’s commitment to broadening the base of beneficiaries and alleviating the financial burdens on students and their families.”
In July, the Cabinet approved amendments to the vehicle plate bylaw to enhance transparency and support higher education funding. Under the new regulations, government, temporary import, and diplomatic vehicle plates would feature clear letter codes indicating the entity to which the vehicle belongs.
The Council of Ministers had decided to allocate all revenues generated from the auction of distinctive vehicle plate numbers to the University Student Support Fund, effective from the current academic semester.
