AMMAN — Tourism Minister Nayef Fayez and his Jamaican counterpart Edmund Bartlett on Monday discussed means to enhance tourist cooperation and exchange between the countries.

The two ministers, during a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Amman, highlighted the importance of establishing a centre for “global tourist flexibility and crisis management”, whose opening agreement was signed in the Kingdom in cooperation with the Middle East University on Sunday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The two ministers also highlighted the significance of establishing this centre to play a main role in preparing for, facing and managing crises that might affect the tourism sector.

Fayez reviewed the government’s procedures to alleviate the pandemic’s repercussions on the tourism sector.

Bartlett commended the “diversified and unique” Jordanian tourist products and the “developed” infrastructure in the Kingdom, stressing that Jordan enjoys various types of tourism, such as health, religious and cultural tourism.

The Jamaican minister said that the centre will contribute to increasing countries’ abilities to respond to crises that might affect the tourism sector.

On the sidelines of the meeting, both sides agreed to prepare a memorandum of understanding between the countries to organise joint tourism action and enhance cooperation.
