AMMAN — The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Sustainable Scientific Vision for Engineering and Environment Company, on Tuesday conducted two consultative sessions with local associations in Madaba and Karak governorates.
These sessions are part of the project titled “Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan through Improving Water Use Efficiency in the Agriculture Sector (BRCCJ),” according to a FAO statement.
Samia Akroush, project’s policy and education Specialist, said that the sessions represent a key component of the project aimed at developing a participatory climate change adaptation plan alongside local communities and civil society organisations.
“Our goal is to engage at least 15 selected civil society organisations and over 500 individuals, including farmers, female-headed households, and municipal employees, through targeted training workshops,” Akroush said.
She added that the workshops focus on improving water use efficiency in agriculture, fostering community engagement, and raising awareness about climate adaptation challenges and solutions. The initiative currently targets Madaba and Karak, with plans to expand to Ma’an and Tafileh governorates, he added.
During the sessions, participants discussed strategies to raise awareness about climate change adaptation, identified local challenges related to climate resilience, and provided valuable feedback to support the design of customised climate adaptation action plans.
The BRCCJ project, implemented by FAO, aims to promote climate-resilient, sustainable development in Jordan by enhancing water management systems and empowering the agricultural community to better adapt to climate change.
