AMMAN — Two European officials on Wednesday stressed the Kingdom’s pivotal role in the Middle East, noting that His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Brussels highlights the “deep-rooted” ties and cooperation between Jordan and the EU and with NATO.
EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Nabila Massrali said that His Majesty’s meetings with President of the EU Council Charles Michel and President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen provide an opportunity to reiterate commitment to the EU-Jordanian partnership, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The meetings are also a good opportunity to exchange views of major issues, such as cooperation, peace and stability in the region, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic and the availability of vaccines, Massrali added.
James Appathurai, the Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy at NATO, said that NATO’s partnership with Jordan is among the strongest in the world, describing the NATO-Jordan cooperation as “deep and comprehensive, which is important to us”.
