ESC, JNCW conclude meetings regarding women-centred enterprises

AMMAN — Th Economic and Social Council (ESC), in cooperation with Jordanian National Commission for Women, concluded on Thursday a series of national consultative meetings involving representatives from both the public and private sectors and international organisations.

The two-day sessions fell within the “Employment in Jordan 2030” project that was implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The sessions focused on discussions aimed at refining the definition of women-owned and women-led enterprises in Jordan, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Team leader of the 2030 employment project in Jordan Alexander Monden highlighted the importance of defining these enterprises, noting that this clarity of definition is expected to enable Jordan to generate consistent data on the enterprises’ quantity and quality. This strategic move will allow for a more targeted approach to supporting their development, which would contribute to overall economic growth, he added.

ESC Director Musa Shteiwi said that these meetings show the council's commitment to constructive dialogue between the public and private sectors on economic issues. "Establishing a precise and consensus-based definition will not only facilitate data classification and measurement, but also allow for effective comparisons at the local and international levels," he said, Petra reported.

He added that this will also enable institutions to collect and analyse data more efficiently, monitor women's economic participation, and contribute to the implementation of key national strategies by producing concrete results.
