Ensour due in Baghdad Thursday

AMMAN — Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour is scheduled to head to Baghdad on Thursday along with a ministerial delegation.

During the one-day official visit, the premier will hold talks with Iraqi President Fouad Massoum and a number of senior officials.

The premier is also scheduled to meet his Iraqi counterpart Haider Al Abadi and discuss bilateral cooperation and developments in Iraq.

An official source told The Jordan Times last week on condition of anonymity that Jordanian-Iraqi military cooperation will be on the agenda of discussions during Ensour’s visit.

“We have already trained Iraqi soldiers and our military capabilities are at their disposal whenever they ask for it,” the source noted.

“The discussions will focus on the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project and progress achieved so far in this project,” he said, adding that tenders will be floated soon for the implementation of the $18 billion pipeline through which Iraq will export crude oil from Basra to Aqaba.

Discussions will also address trade and possible measures to improve the land cargo shipment between the two neighbours.
