AMMAN — The Energy Ministry’s Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) on Wednesday received the Mediterranean Climate Change Adaptation Award, distinguishing it as the best institution seeking to reduce climate change in the Arab and Euro-Mediterranean regions.

JREEEF received the award on the sidelines of a special conference on energy rationalisation, currently being held in Marrakesh, Morocco. The conference is organised by Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean (meetMED) programme and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), according to an Energy Ministry statement.

The fund received the award for its efforts and programmes to reduce the impact of climate change, especially on schoolchildren, and for implementing programmes that have had a profound economic and social impact on citizens and have effectively contributed to reducing carbon emissions.

Upon receiving the award, JREEEF Director Rasmi Hamzeh expressed his pride and pleasure in the international recognition, noting that the award is also a tribute to the broader Jordanian efforts in this field.

Hamzeh also expressed pride in the projects that the JREEEF team has successfully implemented over the last seven years, which include a package of 16 projects worth over JD100 million, covering 11 sectors.
