EMRC amends electricity tariffs for mining, telecom sectors

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission’s (EMRC) board of commissioners on Wednesday amended the electricity tariffs for major economic sectors, as of November 1.
EMRC Chief Commissioner Farouq Hiari said the decision aims to help these sectors enhance their competitiveness and lower their operational costs, so as to benefit the national economy, according to an EMRC statement.
The new tariff for mining companies will be lowered by 27 fils per kilowatt hour (kWh), to stand at 237 fils per kWh during the day and 170 fils per kWh during the night, while the decision maintained the tariff at JD2.98 per kWh under the maximum load.
Telecom companies whose consumption ranges between 1 kWh and 2,000 kWh will pay 230 fils per kWh, but when consumption exceeds 2,000 kWh, the price stands at 273 fils per kWh, according to the EMRC.
