AMMAN — Representatives of different economic sectors stated that employing individuals with high digital skills alongside adapting with changing market needs are some of the most important techniques for business owners to expand their businesses and continue operating in the market, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

“Market research is a key element for acknowledging market needs and fulfilling consumers’ needs,” according to Petra.

Petra added that adapting to market changes requires an “innovative approach” for business owners to commit to in the workplace. Additionally, training the workforce to advance in their digital skills is needed for expansion to international markets.

“Digital adaptation is a ‘must’ for any company to succeed in our modern digital world,” Ghaith Mustafa, a specialist in data science, told The Jordan Times in a recent interview.

Mustafa added that in the modern workplace, digital skills are highly valued and said they are “vital” for job longevity.

He added that the digital age is entering all areas of lives and it is not just those who work in the IT sector that will need to be alert of this change.

Mustafa said that this change is happening at a faster pace every day, and that “companies either adapt to this change or they’re likely to be left behind”.

Programme developer Samer Shihabi added that “attaining digital skills has never been easier”, as they can be “individually” developed.

He added that online courses are available and “mostly free” for employees and jobseekers, noting that “a potential digital skills gap is a concern for both employers and jobseekers”.

A digital skills gap is created by the boom in the digital economy compared with the amount of people who are trained to work in it, he noted.

“Automation might be the solution if a digital skills gap challenge occurs,” Shihabi added, noting that automation means employers utilising automated technology in order to fill the skill gap.

“It is essential for jobseekers to insure themselves against the rising need for digital skills in the workplace,” he said.
