AMMAN — The Criminal Court has sentenced a 20-year-old electrician to three years in prison for molesting a boy suffering from mental disorders in Amman in April 2014.
The court declared the defendant guilty of molesting the 14-year-old boy, who is his relative, on several occasions in April and handed him a three-year sentence.
Court papers said the defendant lured the victim, who suffers from mental disorders, learning disabilities and autism, to a deserted area where he molested him on several occasions.
After the last incident of sexual assault on April 13, the victim informed his family, according to court papers.
“Police officers at the Family Protection Department questioned the boy and the defendant was arrested as a result,” the court said.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges during his opening trial earlier this year.
The tribunal comprised judges Fawzi Nahar, Ibrahim Bawareed and Mohammad Udwan.
The criminal court prosecutor had asked the court to impose the maximum punishment on the defendant as stipulated by the law.
The verdict, which was issued by the tribunal at the end of last month, will automatically be reviewed by the Cassation Court.
