Electric vehicles surpass 50% clearances in free zones

AMMAN — Electric vehicles accounted for more than 50 per cent of total vehicle clearances in Jordan's free zones during the first ten months of 2023, President of the Jordan Free Zone Investor Commission (JFZIC) Mohammad Bustanji said on Saturday. 

Highlighting the growing trend towards reliance on electric vehicles, Bustanji said that the January-October period saw the clearance of 30,000 electric vehicles, showing an increase of 137 per cent compared with last year, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He said that gasoline cars cleared during the same period reached 10,031 vehicles, marking a drop of about 25 per cent compared with 13,434 vehicles during the same period in 2022. 

The number of cleared diesel-powered vehicles decreased to 6,651 vehicles, representing a drop of 18.32 per cent compared with the previous year.

Bustanji highlighted the 15.7-per cent increase in the clearance of hybrid vehicles, as a total of 13,876 vehicles were cleared during the same period.

Regarding the re-exported vehicles, he said that the volume of these vehicles reached 38,188, registering an increase of 6.41 per cent compared with the previous year.

The guarantees provide buyers from the free zone with the best price and a warranty on their vehicle for three years or 50,000 kilometres, whichever comes first, for electric vehicles and two years or 40,000 kilometres for gasoline and hybrid vehicles.
