Election commission holds meeting with women activists

AMMAN — UNDP Country Director Zena Ali-Ahmad on Tuesday stressed the importance of women’s participation in elections and providing effective protection to guarantee their right in this regard.
The UN official was speaking at a meeting the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) co-held with the UNDP that hosted representatives of women’s commissions.
IEC President Riyadh Shakaa said the meeting is part of the commission’s endeavours to discuss the views of women’s rights activists on adopting strategies aimed at increasing women’s participation in future elections.
