Education Ministry has ‘no intentions’ to cancel current semester — Nuemi

AMMAN — Minister of Education Tayseer Nueimi on Wednesday said that the current educationalsemester will continue, adding that the ministry has “no intention to cancel it and the issue was never raised”.

Nueimi, in an interview with the Jordan News Agency, Petra, called on students to continue following up on their lessons through online platforms and TV channels, reassuring them that the ministry “understands” the concerns of students and parents, especially Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate Examination) students during these exceptional circumstances.

The ministry is planning procedures to address any shortcomings in students’ learning, especially for those who do not have the necessary tools and means for remote education through the Darsak platform or televised lessons, he noted.

The minister said that the ministry will ask teachers, starting on Thursday, to activate their accounts on its “NoorSpace” platform to continue their academic interactions with students.

He also called on students to activate their accounts on the same platform, noting that NoorSpace is already known to students, as well as teachers who normally upload students’ grades on it.

Nueimi said that the ministry has created virtual classrooms through the Microsoft Teams platform for all students, which will be activated in two stages. The first stage will cover grades eight to 12 (Tawjihi), while the second stage will cover grades one to seven.

This measure seeks to enable teachers to interact with their students, answer their inquiries and send them assignments and tests.

The Ministry of Education, in cooperation with its partners, on Tuesday also launched a free remote teaching training programme, which includes 90 training hours, for teachers via the platform www.Teachers.gov.jo.
