AMMAN — The comprehensive national field exercise, “Darb Al Aman 3”, has evoked positive reactions from the public.

The field exercise, conducted by the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM), assesses the readiness and response capabilities of both public and private institutions in responding to earthquakes.

“With the consecutive earthquakes occurring in different areas it has become really important to build up the resilience of our infrastructure and conduct activities that enhance our earthquake preparedness,” Mahmoud Abdulla, an employee at the Madaba City Mall who observed the national drill that took place in Madaba, told The Jordan Times.

He added that the activity was an unusual experience, however one that is necessary to promote awareness of the dangers that accompany earthquakes and educate the public on how to take action.

“Earthquakes are momentary and unpredictable, so having a background of how to operate in the moment is so helpful,” said Noor Al Manaseer, a Jordanian who was present during the drill.

Such an exercise helps act accurately and quickly during a disaster, to prevent any possible escalation and minimise losses or injuries, she added.

Similarly, Nada Omar who is based in Jordan told The Jordan Times that she received a text message from the NCSCM which read: “This is to inform you that the alarm sirens were activated due to the commencement of the Darb Al Aman 3 National Exercise.”

“I think what the NCSCM is doing is truly professional. And is necessary during this time,” she said.
