'E-FAWATEER.com witnessed increase in 2019 payments'

AMMAN — Payments made through e-FAWATEER.com in 2019 rose to JD6.747 billion compared with JD6.1 billion in 2018, the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) announced on Tuesday.
CBJ data, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, showed that a total of 14.5 million transactions were processed through the system in 2019, compared with 9.2 million transactions the year before.
On a monthly level, payments through the system in December went up to JD730.3 million, compared with JD550 million in December of 2018, while the number of transactions increased from 1 million in December 2018 to 1.6 million in December 2019.
Since its launch in 2015 and up to the end of 2019, e-FAWATEER.com dealt with 30.8 million transactions at a total value of JD16.877 billion, data showed.
The e-service, run by the CBJ, is a system that allows people to review and pay bills through linking public and private institutions from various sectors with banks and payment services.
The system provides access to electronic payment methods such as ATMs, Internet banking and payments through mobile and kiosk devices.
The number of institutions that use the system for bills currently stands at 196, all of which are linked to a total of 30 banks and financial institutions, the CBJ said.
These 196 institutions offer over 538 different payment services, according to e-FAWATEER.com.
