AMMAN — The Department of Palestinian Affairs (DPA) on Monday announced the launch of a comprehensive project to assess infrastructure in Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan, including residential units, in order to create an accurate and reliable database on the state of services.
DPA Director-General Rafiq Khirfan said that the project represents a “qualitative” step in institutional work on refugee issues.
He added that the project findings will serve as a “key” reference for decision-makers in planning future projects and directing development initiatives towards clearly defined priorities.
Khirfan noted that engaging youth volunteers from the camps in conducting the field survey reflects the department’s commitment to fostering community partnership and empowering residents to actively improve their living conditions.
He also stressed that the project reflects Jordan’s ongoing commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees and providing a safe and healthy environment that preserves their dignity.
The efforts are part of a comprehensive vision to ensure the sustainability and development of services to meet the needs of future generations, Khirfan pointed out.
The three-month project, carried out with technical staff and volunteers from the camps, will focus on three main areas: the availability, quality, and sustainability of water; the efficiency and level of sanitation services; and the condition, safety, and suitability of housing for decent living.
