AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, on Tuesday visited Ajloun to inspect ongoing renovation works at Our Lady of the Mountain Church and the adjacent Children’s Home.

During his second visit to the church, Prince Ghazi expressed his delight to check on progress in the revamp project, appreciating the role of the church staff and all institutions that contributed to the development of services that would provide a safe environment for children and visitors of the church.

The maintenance and development works were conducted under the Patronage of His Majesty King Abdulla, with the continuous support for the Christian Pilgrimage Sites in Jordan, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Patriarchal Vicar in Jordan Bishop Iyad Twal stressed the importance of His Majesty's support for the church and other Christian pilgrimage sites.

Father Youssef Francis, Pastor of the church and Head of the Children's Home (Mary the Virgin, Mother of Hope), delivered a speech in which he expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King for his support of churches and Christian pilgrimage sites in the Kingdom.

Jordan is home to five Christian pilgrimage sites designated by the Vatican during the visit of the late Pope John Paul II in 2000. These include Our Lady of the Mountain Church in Ajloun, which commemorates the Virgin Mary, and Tell Mar Elias, believed to be the birthplace of the Prophet Elijah. Mount Nebo is traditionally regarded as the burial site of Prophet Moses, while Machaerus Fortress is known as the location where John the Baptist (Prophet Yahya) was martyred. The fifth site is the Baptism Site of Jesus on the Jordan River, where Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist.
