AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi on Wednesday inaugurated two model schools in Amman and a full-sized football pitch in Madaba.

The projects were carried out under Royal directives as part of ongoing initiatives to develop the education and youth sectors, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The new facilities reflect the King’s keenness on enhancing education and sports infrastructure to improve the school environment, provide modern facilities for students and expand opportunities for youth participation in sports and community activities.

Issawi, who is also head of the committee overseeing the implementation of Royal initiatives, inaugurated Hayy Al Matar Mixed Secondary School in Marka District and Al Yadoudah Boys’ Secondary School in Qweismeh District, unveiling commemorative plaques and touring the four-storey buildings.

Hayy Al Matar School includes 29 classrooms, while Al Yadoudah School comprises 27, with featuring science and computer laboratories, a theatre and a five-a-side football pitch. Hayy Al Matar School accommodates 900 students, compared with 1,059 at Al Yadoudah.

Constructed using modern prefabricated building systems and funded by the Royal Hashemite Court, the two institutions are described as integrated educational facilities designed and built in line with the latest standards approved by the Ministry of Education.

They offer an enhanced learning environment and dedicated spaces for extracurricular activities.

Students, teachers and administrative staff expressed their gratitude for the Royal gesture, noting that the new schools provide a modern, comfortable and motivating environment that meets the needs of the educational process.

Minister of Education and Higher Education Azmi Mahafzah, Amman Governor Yasser Adwan and the directors of education for Marka and Qweismeh attended the inauguration.

In Madaba, Issawi also inaugurated the full-sized football pitch adjacent to Madaba Secondary School for Boys.

The pitch was rehabilitated under Royal directives issued in April 2024, with upgrades including a new playing surface, new stands and fencing, and the refurbishment of changing rooms and sanitary facilities.

The facility will serve students from neighbouring schools, local communities, clubs and youth groups across Madaba. The ceremony was attended by Mahafzah, Madaba Governor Hassan Jbour and the director of Central Madaba Education Directorate.

Issawi said that the projects reflect continued Royal directives prioritising improved public services, noting that the three initiatives in Amman and Madaba were implemented under the King’s direct instructions as part of the Royal Initiatives programme.

He added that the new schools represent a significant addition to the education sector and embody the Royal vision for developing public schools and transforming them into model institutions.

Issawi also noted that the Royal Initiatives continue to prioritise youth and sports infrastructure, adding that the rehabilitation of the Madaba football pitch will provide a nurturing sports environment for students and contribute to youth development and sports activity in the governorate.
