AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah on Thursday sponsored a ceremony honouring winners of the 20th edition of the King Abdullah II Fitness Award.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Jordan School Sports Federation, with wide participation from students, schools, and education directorates across the Kingdom.
The ceremony was attended by senior education officials, representatives of the Royal Health Awareness Society, educators, parents, and partners from the education sector.
A documentary was also screened, highlighting the award’s development since its launch in 2005 and its role in promoting physical fitness and school health, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Officials stressed that the Royal initiative aims to embed sport as part of students’ daily lives. They said it improves academic performance and social behaviour.
They said that the award has evolved from a competition into a national project. It helps build discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and self-confidence. It also promotes better health and prepares students for future contributions to society.
The event included sports and artistic performances by participating directorates from across the Kingdom, showcasing physical and creative talents.
At the end of the ceremony, the minister honoured the winners, schools, and directorates. He reiterated that the King Abdullah II Fitness Award and the national health championship represent a model for promoting sport, wellbeing, and excellence among Jordanian students.
Participation this year reached 985,117 students from 3,179 public, private, and military culture schools, reflecting the programme’s continued expansion.
