AMMAN — A peaceful demonstration was held on Friday near Theeban Mosque, calling for jobs for young people and the release of people who were apprehended in recent events after protests in the district.
Demonstrators said the unemployed youths were keen to preserve security and stability in the country, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Riots erupted in Theeban District in Madaba Governorate, 70km southwest of Amman, in June when gendarmerie forces removed a tent for protesters, mostly unemployed, who were demanding jobs from the government.
Police rounded up 20 suspects, released 17 and kept three men in custody on suspicion of shooting at gendarmerie forces.
