Cyprus president visits Greek Orthodox Archdiocese‏ of Jordan

AMMAN — President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday visited the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese‏ of Jordan, where he was received by Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church Christophoros Attallah, along with several priests.

During his visit, the Cypriot president was provided with insights into the vital role of the Jerusalem Patriarchate and the Orthodox Church in preserving the sacred sites and fostering the Christian presence in the Holy Land.

Archbishop Christophoros took the opportunity to commend His Majesty King Abdullah, the Hashemite Custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites, for his significant contributions in safeguarding the rights and privileges of the patriarchate and for his efforts in strengthening the Christian presence in the Holy Land.

In response, President Christodoulides lauded the “deep-rooted ties” among Cyprus, Jordan and the Jerusalem Patriarchate. He expressed pride in the continuous advancement of cooperation between the two nations.

As the meeting concluded, both the president and the archbishop exchanged commemorative gifts, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
