AMMAN — The Ministry of Culture is seeking to make the Kingdom’s culture and arts sector a productive one via creating a generation of young businesspeople in the fields of cultural and creative industries, Minister of Culture Basim Tweissi said on Sunday.

Tweissi, in a statement, highlighted the public and civil society institutions’ efforts, led by the ministry, towards developing the first Jordanian business accelerator in the field of culture and arts, aimed at supporting young Jordanians to establish startups in the field of culture and arts, noting that the accelerator has begun receiving applications from those wishing to join the programme.

The newly launched startup accelerator, Ibdaa (creativity in Arabic), is aimed to support entrepreneurial ideas of young people and turning them into startups in the fields of music, design, theatre and film-making, as well as improving cultural content in media among others, the statement reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, added.

A group of youth will be selected to receive training, then they will proceed to the next stage where they will be introduced to potential investors to secure funds, he added.

Tweissi added that the ministry is keen on developing cultural products that contribute to the national economy and create jobs.
