Culture minister inaugurates Islamic calligraphy exhibition

AMMAN — Culture Minister Nabih Shuqum on Sunday inaugurated the first exhibition of the Jordanian Forum for Arabic calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation as part of the activities of Amman being the capital of Islamic culture for 2017, according to a ministry statement.

The exhibition, which is influenced by the spirituality embedded in the Islamic culture, includes some 80 portraits inspired by the holy Koran writing style, according to the statement. Shuqum highlighted the beauty of Arabic calligraphy and the importance to introduce the new generation and students to its techniques.

He discussed with the participants about working on their calligraphy skills to improve their writing. President of the forum Jamal Moghrabi said that the Arabic calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation are the best representations of the Arabic Islamic culture, pointing that Arabic calligraphy dates back to the Nabataeans, who showed the richness of the region through beautiful engravings, the statement read.
