AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Sunday praised the humanitarian efforts of the Jordanian International Search and Rescue Team of the Public Security Directorate's (PSD) Civil Defence Department, following its return to the Kingdom after concluding the humanitarian mission in Venezuela.
In a post on his Instagram account, the Crown Prince said: "May your hands continue to give in the service of humanity. May God protect you as a source of pride and honour for Jordan. Praise be to God for your safe return."
The mission was launched under Royal directives to assist in the response to a devastating earthquake that struck the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, and surrounding areas, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The Qatari Air Force transported the team back to the Kingdom in coordination with the Qatari military attaché in Amman, reflecting the “deep” bilateral relations and partnership between Jordan and Qatar in supporting humanitarian and relief efforts.
PSD said that the team, which includes highly specialised personnel trained to the highest international standards alongside a medical team from the Royal Medical Services, conducted complex search and rescue operations in the hardest-hit areas.
The team used advanced equipment and techniques and successfully rescued a three-year-old child alive from under the rubble six days after the earthquake, recovered 35 bodies, and provided technical and humanitarian support while working alongside Venezuelan and international rescue teams.
PSD noted that the president of Venezuela honoured the Jordanian team in recognition of their exceptional humanitarian efforts and prominent role in the operations, praising the team's professional competence, rapid response, high discipline, and adherence to international standards.
The directorate added that the team's achievements during this specialised mission reflect its advanced capabilities, accumulated experience, and high operational readiness, which have solidified international trust in the team and boosted its status among elite globally classified search and rescue teams.
