AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Sunday checked on the progress of the Aqaba International Circuit (AIC) and the Aqaba City Park projects.
During visits to the two sites, the Crown Prince emphasised the importance of completing work on the two projects on time and in accordance with the highest technical and engineering standards, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Royal Highness underscored the need to finish the two projects by this summer, in order to strengthen Aqaba’s position as a comprehensive tourism and development destination.
During the visit to the AIC, the Crown Prince noted that a suitable operator for the circuit must be selected in line with international best practices, highlighting the project’s economic importance.
During the visit to the city park, His Royal Highness stressed the importance of ensuring the provision of high-quality recreational and community spaces, in addition to establishing a sustainable operation and maintenance plan for the facilities.
The Crown Prince was briefed by Aqaba Development Corporation Chief Executive Officer Hussein Safadi on the progress and status of the two projects, as well as future plans for their operation and management, the statement said.
Safadi explained that the AIC spans 1,145 dunums and includes a main race track designed to accommodate future Formula 3 and higher race categories, as well as a training track for karting, a 90-dunum paddock area, and a 1,688-square-metre building to serve the circuit.
Speaking about the park, Safadi explained that the project will feature six sports pitches with grass surfaces, numerous open plazas, a 1,700-seat theatre, footpaths and cycle paths, green spaces, and other facilities.
His Royal Highness was accompanied on the visits by Director of the Office of the Crown Prince Zaid Baqain.
