AMMAN — HRH Crown Prince Hussein on Wednesday stressed the need to capitalise on Aqaba’s competitive edge and promote it as a tourist and investment destination, in line with the Royal vision.

Chairing a meeting at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) to review the strategic plan for Aqaba, Crown Prince Hussein called for providing an environment conducive to investments and responsive to market needs, in order to ensure the plan’s success, according to a Royal Court statement.

The Crown Prince urged building on the success achieved in Aqaba in earlier stages, calling for revisiting ASEZA’s project implementation mechanisms, which have been marked by missteps in recent years.

The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, covered measures to bolster the implementation of investment projects in the city and remove any hindrances that may impede progress by unifying efforts.

His Royal Highness listened to a briefing by ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Bakhit on Aqaba’s strategic plan, which is carried out over two phases.

Bakhit said the first phase includes honing skills that meet the private sector’s needs, enhancing tourism in the city, and establishing entertainment projects, while the second phase focuses on logistic services and building industrial projects.
