AMMAN — The Amman Court of First Instance on Wednesday sentenced six people to three years in prison after convicting them of money laundering charges.
The court also ordered a defendant to pay JD4 million in restitution, while the others were ordered to pay around JD12.5 million.
The court also upheld the acquittal of a member of the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The decision came after a man with US residency counterfeited electronic discs in violation of copyright laws, and allegedly obtained some $50 million from the process, which compelled the American courts to issue a judgment of denaturalisation, revoking his citizenship and sentencing him to 60 months in prison. After he was released from prison, the individual set up a business in his son's name and contacted two individuals in Jordan, one of which was a public servant, and sent them money to be given to a second party involved in the case.
