AMMAN — The State Security Court (SSC) on Wednesday sentenced activists Tareq Jawabreh and Tareq Khader to three month prison terms for “lèse majesté” and “undermining the state” in statements made during protests.
Jawabreh was detained for defaming the Royal family during a protest in October 2012 while Khader was arrested in July 2013 after his participation in a rally protesting against the ouster of Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.
The two men, both activists with the Muslim Brotherhood and popular movements, are set to appeal the decision, according to their defence attorney Hikmat Rawashdeh.
