AMMAN — The Ministry of Social Development and the King Abdullah II Centre for Excellence (KACE) have signed a memorandum of understanding to launch the “Corporate Seal for Supporting and Empowering Women” in the public and private sectors.
Minister of Social Development and Chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment Wafa Bani Mustafa and KACE Executive Director Wedad Qteishat signed the agreement, according to a ministry statement on Wednesday.
The signing ceremony was attended by Secretary-General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women (JNCW) Maha Ali.
Bani Mustafa highlighted the ministry's partnership with KACE, describing it as a “pioneering” national institution, noting that the collaboration authorises the centre to manage and grant the seal as part of national efforts to enhance women’s economic empowerment.
The minister added that the initiative aligns with the Royal vision for modernisation, particularly the Economic Modernisation Vision, reflecting a political will to harness the potential of Jordanian women and improve their sustainable participation in the labour market.
Bani Mustafa further said that the seal is the first initiative of its kind at the local and regional levels, and follows three years of consultations involving the JNCW, the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, civil society organisations, and various experts.
The seal serves as a tool to assess institutional commitment to equality standards in line with the best international practices and national legislation.
It aims to enhance corporate governance and provide a fair and inclusive work environment, where participating entities will receive training and evaluation based on clear criteria linked to incentives for the private sector.
Ali emphasised that the Cabinet’s approval of the seal is a significant step towards fostering a female-friendly work environment based on equal opportunities, which will increase women's economic participation.
She noted that the seal was developed to suit the national context and Jordan's working environment while incorporating the best relevant global practices.
Qteishat underscored the “strategic” partnership, noting that the agreement aims to encourage institutions to provide empowering environments for women to ensure their recruitment, retention and professional growth.
She added that the seal operates within an integrated national framework based on international standards. Managed by KACE, which is chaired by HRH Prince Feisal, the initiative will utilise the centre's expertise in excellence models and institutional assessment.
Qteishat added that the criteria go beyond theoretical policies to measure actual implementation and practical results within the workplace, ensuring a sustainable impact on women's empowerment across the Kingdom.
