AMMAN — The General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) on Wednesday announced that a controlled detonation will take place Thursday morning, targeting a number of old mines along a strip of land on the border near the Prince Mohammed Bridge (Damia Bridge). A reliable military source revealed that surveys and inspections showed that these mines pose an imminent danger to local residents and their property.
The mines have the potential to explode spontaneously, necessitating their immediate removal, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. The area has been evacuated in preparation for the upcoming detonation, the source said, emphasising the importance of maintaining a safe distance from the area during the operation, as the detonation will produce loud noises. The source also urged the public to avoid circulating any rumors that could needlessly cause anxiety within the community.
