Consumer society criticises private school fee hikes

By Petra - Jul 01,2014 - Last updated at Jul 01,2014

AMMAN — The Consumer Protection Society (CPS) on Tuesday criticised the sustained annual increase in private schools’ tuition fees, a phenomenon that has so far gone unchecked by the government.

CPS President Mohammad Obeidat said the society has received several complaints from parents requesting that private schools’ “systematic” hikes be curbed.

Obeidat also called on the Education Ministry to intervene to end the phenomenon, reminding the government that education is a basic need akin to food and medicine which has to be available and affordable to all.
