Consumer Price Index up by 2.97% in first 5 months of 2022 —DoS

AMMAN — The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, went up by 2.97 per cent in the first five months of the year to 104.97 points against 101.94 points in the same period of 2021, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Tuesday.
In its monthly report, the DoS said that the main commodity groups that contributed to this increase was transport by 0.88 per cent, fuel and lighting by 0.63 per cent, vegetables, dried and canned legumes by 0.44 per cent, meat and poultry by 0.19 per cent and culture and entertainment by 0.14 per cent, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The prices of several commodities slightly dropped including beverages and juices by 0.03 per cent, rentals by 0.02 per cent, health-related commodities by 0.02 per cent and condiments, food enhancers and other foodstuff by 0.01 per cent. At a monthly level, the DoS indicated that the CPI went up by 0.51 per cent, reaching 106.53 points in May compared with 105.99 in April.
