AMMAN — The Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah and Minister of Government Communications Faisal Shboul on Monday met with the chairman and members of the committee for integrating media and information education concepts into the curricula.

During a meeting at the National Centre for Curriculum Development (NCCD), Mahafzah, who is also president of the Higher Council of NCCD, said that the Education Council has approved the general and specific framework for integrating media and information education competencies into school curricula, as part of the government’s executive plan to disseminate media education concepts, which were approved in 2020.

According to a recent announcement, the NCCD’s teams are working on developing new curricula for the Arabic language, social studies and Islamic education for the upcoming academic year, in addition to reprinting Islamic education and mathematics books that were approved in the previous year.

Shboul, who is also the government’s spokesperson, said that the ministry has become interested in the field of media and information education after being transferred from the Ministry of Culture.

He also revealed that Jordan will host the Media and Information Education Week in October, organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The government supports this conference, which will involve a minimum of 500 participants, he said, noting  that the event will be an excellent opportunity to share Jordan’s pioneering experience in media and information education with participants from around the world, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
