Committee formed to regulate rental farms

AMMAN — The ministries of tourism and interior on Saturday said that they formed a committee in cooperation with stakeholders to review regulations governing rental farms.

The committee is expected to complete work within a week, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The two ministries, in a joint statement cited by Petra, said that the aim of the recent decision to ban the rental of swimming pools in farms is not to collect money or stop the work of rental farms but rather to ensure their commitment to safety measures.

They also referred to the three drowning cases on rental farms last month that resulted in the death of three people.

The Tourism Ministry said that in the 2019 regulation for rental houses, which went into effect on April 16, 2020, the ministry only granted initial approvals to rental farms and did not provide a final approval.

In this regard, the ministry urged farm owners not to start operating before providing the approvals of the Interior Ministry, the Civil Defence Department (CDD) and other stakeholders.

The ministry also called on farm owners to receive approvals from the Ministry of Health and the CDD if rental farms have swimming pools.

It also said that the Tourism Law and its amendments prohibit practising any tourist profession without obtaining a licence from the ministry.
