Cold, wet weather forecast to prevail on Wednesday, weekend

AMMAN — Cold and rainy weather conditions will prevail on Wednesday with more depressions expected on Thursday and during the weakened, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Rain chances diminish in the evening on Wednesday, and clouds gradually decrease, it said.

Thursday’s weather will be foggy, partially cloudy and cold in most areas, with the possibility of light rain in the north, the department said.

At night on Thursday, rain showers are expected in the north, extending to the central and south-western regions, JMD said.

Early Friday morning, Jordan will be affected by a “very” cold and moist air mass accompanying a depression centered over Cyprus, according to JMD. 

The Jordan Valley Authority (JAV) authority urged citizens, farmers, and livestock breeders to take necessary precautions to protect properties and lives, through avoiding areas prone to water accumulation, dams valleys and flash flood areas. 

The JAV said that its teams across all departments will work around the clock to meet citizens’ needs with the highest level of response to cope with the evolving weather conditions. “All necessary measures have been taken, including activating emergency rooms and enhancing the readiness of personnel, machinery and equipment across the Jordan Valley and all dam sites in the Kingdom.”
