AMMAN — Orange Jordan on Thursday launched its Coding Academy during an inauguration ceremony held under the patronage of Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Muthana Gharaibeh.
The academy will offer free and intensive training courses in coding, with a focus on Java and Python coding languages, according to an Orange Jordan statement.
During the opening ceremony, Gharaibeh stressed that the government is working on a number of programmes to educate trainees to deal with the requirements of the digital economy and leadership, in addition to providing them with the skills of the 21st century and coding.
CEO of Orange Jordan Thierry Marigny added that the academy will serve two main dimensions; the first being related to the business sector, where employment standards have changed significantly in terms of job acceptance, and now depend on the scientific and professional qualifications related to diversified technology.
The second dimension is related to training the youth of Jordan in order to allow them to find job opportunities currently in demand in the labour market, pointing out that the academy’s training aims to serve job seekers and companies.
The academy’s first batch of 50 young people has already been selected, according to the statement, which added that they will take part in a six-month training programme followed by a one-month internship at a Jordanian company.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Walid Maani, Chief Commissioner at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission Ghazi Jbour, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Orange Jordan/Jordan Telecom Group Shabib Ammari, Deputy CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa Jérôme Hénique and representatives of a number of local companies, the statement read.
