AMMAN — Hybrid vehicle clearances rose by 32 per cent to 5,662 vehicles in the first five months of 2025, compared with 4,305 vehicles in the same period of 2024, Jihad Abu Nasser, representative of the vehicle sector at the Jordan Free Zones Investors Authority, said on Tuesday.
Abu Nasser noted that around 24,000 vehicles were cleared from the Zarqa Free Zone between January and May 2025, marking a 17 per cent decline from the 29,000 vehicles cleared during the same period last year, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported
Clearance of gasoline-powered vehicles saw a "modest" increase of 3 per cent, reaching 2,311 vehicles compared with 2,239 vehicles in the same period of 2024, he said.
Abu Nasser added that diesel vehicle clearances fell "sharply" by 34.5 per cent to 1,979 vehicles, down from 3,020 vehicles in the corresponding period of last year.
Electric vehicle clearances also declined, with a 29 per cent drop to 13,739 vehicles by the end of May, compared with 19,307 vehicles during the same period in 2024, he noted.
Abu Nasser said that re-exported vehicles saw a "significant" rise of 80 per cent, with around 35,000 vehicles re-exported in the first five months of 2025, up from 19,000 vehicles during the same period of 2024.
