Civil projects must take into account technological transformation — Amman mayor

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday attended the inauguration of the Arab Towns Organisation’s (ATO) 18th general conference and its 56th executive council session.

On behalf of His Majesty, the premier was presented with a plaque by ATO Secretary General Ahmed Subaih in appreciation of King Abdullah’s support, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

“With this conference we look forward to furthering the role of the ATO through the contributions of Arab towns and the building of new partnerships with international institutions,” Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh said.

He added: “We understand that the world is entering into an era with new requirements, which our projects must adhere to,” pointing to technological advancements that have facilitated the provision of services rural residents. 

 Shawarbeh stressed the importance of developing legislation to boost institutional performance and improve the quality of infrastructure.

The mayor highlighted King Abdullah’s support for the conference, adding that the conference aims to mirror Hashemite leadership, which sustains balance and fraternity among Arab countries. 

Creating partnerships with international organisations that operate within the field of sustainable development will allow towns to create jobs and find sustainable solutions to issues such as transportation, climate change and the green economy, Shawarbeh said.
