AMMAN — Director-General of the Department of Statistics (DoS) Haidar Fraihat said on Sunday that the current listing phase of the 2026 Population and Housing Census is progressing ahead of schedule, with an overall completion rate of 86 per cent nationwide.
During a meeting attended by Amman Governor Yasser Adwan and members of the governorate’s executive council, Fraihat said that building listing has reached 87 per cent, while block listing stood at 85.3 per cent out of a total of 24,058 blocks across the Kingdom, reflecting the preparedness and commitment of field teams.
Fraihat also highlighted growing reliance on digital tools in the census process, noting that 21 per cent of citizens have opted for the self-enumeration service, which enhances efficiency and provides greater flexibility for respondents.
He said the actual enumeration phase is scheduled to begin on October 1, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The meeting also discussed operational arrangements and logistical support for field teams, stressing the importance of coordination among official and local entities to ensure the success of the national project.
For his part, Adwan underscored the strategic importance of the census as a key national undertaking that provides accurate data to support decision-making and development planning. He praised the efforts of the DoS and field teams across the Kingdom.
The meeting is part of a series of coordination sessions held by the DoS with governorates and partner institutions to monitor progress and ensure preparations for the next phases, in line with the highest standards of quality and accuracy.
