AMMAN — Forest fires are among the most pressing seasonal issues, and usually happen towards the end of spring and the beginning of the summer, Civil Defence Department (CDD) Director Lt. Gen. Mustafa Bazayaah said on Saturday.

They comprise the majority of the incidents the CDD deals with during the season, with the rise in temperatures and the spread of dry grass and weeds, he added.

In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Bazayaah called for raising awareness on practices that could result in forest fires, from improper disposal of lit cigarettes to cooking and bonfires.

He also underlined the importance of seasonally clearing dry grass in woodlands and the vitality of volunteerism in the preservation of the Kingdom’s forests.
