AMMAN — The Cassation Court on Tuesday contested the ruling of the State Security Court (SSC) that reduced the sentence of two defendants in the “Karak” case from the death penalty to lifetime imprisonment.
A judicial source was quoted in the Jordan News Agency, Petra, as saying that the SSC’s decision to reduce the penalty of the two young defendants aimed at giving them a second chance at life.
The source added that the Cassation Court found the mitigating circumstances, that the SSC listed, unsatisfactory, as the defendants’ acts had caused chaos, horror and the death of 12 policemen, citizens and a foreign tourist and threatened the country’s security and stability.
