AMMAN — Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury and Middle East Manager at the World Bank Ferid Belhaj on Saturday signed a grant agreement worth $14.8 million presented from the Canadian and Swedish governments to a credit fund run by the WB.
The funds will be directed to support a project for Syrian refugee host communities, according to a ministry statement, which added that after this Canadian-Swedish contribution, the total grants presented to the project reached $52 million.
The project is aimed at helping some municipalities and host communities enhance their capabilities, and support their economic and social development and infrastructure in Irbid and Mafraq governorates.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said Thursday that the number of Syrian refugees now stands at 4,013,000 people, of whom 629,128 have taken refuge in Jordan.
