AMMAN — The Gharimat (indebted women) campaign, under the theme "don't send us to prison", on Monday called on finance companies Tamweelcom and Ithmaar to write off the debts of Gharimat.
In a statement to The Jordan Times on Monday, the campaign called for at least waiving the accumulated interests on loans granted to Jordanian women who were unable to pay them back and have been legally charged.
The campaign said it will continue its sit-ins and rallies at the companies' headquarters until their demands are met, extending thanks to the companies that expressed readiness to either drop the financial claims on women or the interests on their loans.
The campaign also threatened to further escalate measures next week should the issue remain unsolved.
