AMMAN — The Cabinet on Monday approved validating reasons for draft amendments to the Sharia Procedure Law for 2023.

The draft amendments will be sent to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau to complete issuance procedures as per the law, and the issue has been given urgent status, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The draft law allows Sharia courts, the Public Prosecution and family reform and conciliation departments to use modern technologies in their operations, and offers improvements to litigation and documentation procedures.

The Council of Ministers also approved Jordan's hosting of the Centre for Public Policy and Poverty Reduction in the Arab Region, and ratified the bylaw for the centre.

Hosting the centre followed an Arab League Council and the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs decision to establish the centre in Jordan to serve as a regional technical mechanism that supports Arab efforts towards eradicating poverty and setting social policies to achieve sustainable development.

The Cabinet also appointed Abdul Rahim Al Wreikat as director-general of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission, and terminated the services of Tariq Habashneh.
