Cabinet approves draft drugs law

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Sunday approved the draft drugs and psychotropic substances law for 2015, seeking to eliminate the use of illicit drugs in a preventive manner.

The bill stipulates penalties against drug traffickers, pushers and distributors, taking rehabilitation, social aspects and addicts’ treatment into account.

The bill also stipulates the establishment of a fund to combat illicit drugs and psychotropic substances to support treating drug addicts.

The Council of Ministers also approved the issuance of an order to procure data applications needed for the 2015 national population and housing census.

Moreover, the Cabinet approved a decision to open Jordanian embassies in Norway, Cyprus, Kenya, Senegal and Thailand, as well as a consulate in the US state of California, and a representation office in the African Union/Addis Ababa.
