AMMAN — The Cabinet, during a session chaired by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh,  on Sunday approved a bylaw to regulate the practice of student partisan activities at higher education institutions for 2022.

It is the first time a bylaw of this kind has been issued in the Kingdom’s history as part of the political modernisation scheme launched at the beginning of the state’s second centennial, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Azmi Mahafzah stressed that endorsing this bylaw reflects the state's commitment to the political will in moving ahead with the political modernisation process.

Mahafzah said that from now on, no student will be held accountable for practising any partisan activity inside higher education institutions that are required to amend their regulations in accordance with this bylaw.

Also on Sunday, the Council of Ministers approved a draft law for civil status for 2022, which seeks to address shortcomings in changing data at civil status registers, Petra added.

The Cabinet also approved an amended bylaw for the administrative organisation of the Independent Election Commission for 2022 to enable the commission to introduce new organisational units in light of recent constitutional amendments concerned with women empowerment.

The Council of Ministers also approved the Kingdom's support to UNICEF's Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action that was recently launched during COP27.

The Cabinet also decided to appoint Zaid Nawayseh as secretary general of the Government Communications Ministry, and referring adviser at the Prime Ministry Mohammed Sawwafin to retirement.
